JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Bank Information Center partners with civil society in developing and transition countries to influence the World Bank and other international financial institutions (IFIs) to promote social and economic justice and ecological sustainability. BIC is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization that advocates for the protection of rights, participation, transparency, and public accountability in the governance and operations of the World Bank, regional development banks, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the organization and its programs
  • Serve as primary spokesperson for the organization
  • Supervise, manage and develop an international staff of about 25 professionals based in DC and in overseas offices; provide team leadership
  • Provide managerial oversight for all BIC’s programs, offices and activities including an annual budget of over US$1.8 million
  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic partners including Southern NGOs, social movements and international civil society networks 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high-level Bank management, U.S. and other government officials; and media
  • Develop and maintain relationships with funders; expand funding sources
  • Implement ongoing strategic action plan and lead formulation of new plan to start in 2009
  • Work with and help to develop BIC’s Board of Directors

Qualifications:

  • Proven record of leadership with social change organizations at either ED/senior level
  • Well-developed sense of vision and strategy in positioning an organization and creatively guiding its advocacy efforts
  • Strong and effective management, supervisory and team-building skills
  • Demonstrated track record in raising funds from foundations
  • Sophisticated understanding of issues relating to BIC’s mission
  • Experience in working with North-South and/or South-South coalitions; building or strengthening transnational civil society networks; and/or coordinating international campaigns
  • Imagination, enthusiasm and energy for advocacy work in support of environmental, social and economic justice
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds; power to persuade
  • Professional command of English required; other languages desirable
  • Willingness to travel

Salary:

Salary commensurate with experience, excellent benefits.
