16 March 2010
Rainforest Foundation Norway, Rainforest Foundation UK, Greenpeace, FERN and Global Witness, released a joint statement on March 12, 2010, criticizing the Democratic Republic of Congo's REDD readiness proposal for the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility.
Concerns centered on the provision in the proposal for industrial logging and plantations, and inadequate plans to take into account the demands of Congolese civil society. The DRC's readiness proposal will be assessed at the fifth meeting of the FCPF Participants Committee on March 23 in La Lope, Gabon. More information about this meeting, including links to the DRC's proposal and preliminary expert assessments, may be found below.
