Access to Information Working Group update April 5, 2010

The Policy and Handbook working group is currently incorporating the comments it has received on the draft front portion of the AI Handbook. Legal is also in the process of incorporating final comments on the Policy Statement.

The Classification working group circulated the Classifications Handbook for staff to the AIWG members for comments. The group also hosted a "usability" session on Wednesday to test if Bank staff are able to understand the draft Classification Handbook.

The Communication-Training-Public Information working group has produced and circulated additional staff awareness materials, including a Q&A and a one-pager guide. These materials in addition to the three presentations on the policy to various audiences across the Bank are part of the continuing internal awareness campaign. The training team circulated a draft training time line for specialized staff to the AIWG.

After circulating a proposal for the internal Help Desk last week, the Information Solutions Group received AIWG comments and inputs and will be adjusting the proposal as needed. A request went out to Regional Operations Directors this week asking them to nominate several senior operational staff (both at HQ and in regional hub offices) who can serve as AI focal points to support staff in policy implementation.

The Translations working group contacted the Heads of Language Service units in 23 international organizations this week, requesting information on their translation function and policy and in the event that they have the equivalent of an access to information policy, what impact this may have had. The working group also kicked off the quality review of sampled translations of content identified as "core" in the Translation Framework.
