Civil society highlights deficiencies in WB Energy Strategy consultations in Peru, Brazil and Mexico

Civil society groups compile recommendations to the World Bank for the new energy strategy and feedback on public consultations in Peru, Brazil and Mexico

July 5, 2010

Twenty-five civil society groups from Peru, Brazil and Mexico sent an open letter to the World Bank Energy Unit expressing their concerns about the Energy Strategy as well as deficiencies in the consultation process in the region.

The following letter was directed to those in the Bank responsible for the public consultation process and the formulation of the new strategy.  The outcome of this process will be a new a new energy strategy for the next ten years.  The Bank is expected to release a draft strategy based on the inputs generated during the public consultation process by September 2010.  The second round of consultations (online only) will end in November 2010, and the final draft strategy is expected to be ready by early 2011.  Civil society hopes that the first draft of the strategy will include the recommendations highlighted in this letter.
