8 February 2007
An ADB Safeguard Policy Consultation was scheduled to take place on March 8, 2007, in Hanoi, Vietnam. This has now been postponed and a new date has not been announced.
The ADB had set March 8-9th as dates for its Mekong regional and Vietnam country consultations in Mekong for its Safeguard Policy Update (SPU) process. The consultation aimed to get viewpoints of so-called stakeholders from Mekong countries on the ADB’s draft SPU working paper on how to change the existing ADB safeguard policies.
The ADB had committed to invite between 50-60 participants from the Mekong region. The majority of participants will be government officials. According to sources in Manila, approximately 20 civil society organizations (NGOs, project affected people, institutes, and academicians category fall in this category) will be invited.
