Dr. James Hagan was elected as Executive Director of these countries in August 2007. Prior to joining the World Bank, he was the Chief Advisor (International) for the Australian Treasury in Canberra and the Undersecretary for the Department of Finance and Treasury in the Solomon Islands. Hagan was also an analyst for the Industries Assistance Commission and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in Canberra, Australia. Between 1992 and 2004, Hagan served as a General Manager in various divisions of both the New Zealand Treasury and the Australian Treasury. He graduated with Honors from Wollongong University in Australia, and went on to achieve his PhD in Economics from the Australian National University.
