BIC Executive Director Chad Dobson signed the letter to IDB president Luis Alberto Moreno after the approval of the San Francisco-Mocoa Alternate Road Construction Project. The letter notes how constructive dialogue with civil society led to many improvements in the project and encourages some of these commitments to be formalized during the general capital increase.
On December 14th, 2009, the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved loan CO-L1019: San Francisco-Mocoa Alternate Road Construction Project Phase I. The loan includes many of the proposals made by civil society organizations that worked in a cooperative effort with Bank staff and government entities responsible for the preparation and final design of the project since 2006.
No doubt these efforts will be significant for the proper development and management not only for this project but also for future ones, and it is in good faith that we hope that the IDB would expand these commitments to be reflected in the general capital increase.
It is in this sense that the civil society organizations (CSOs) sent a letter to IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno, recognizing the Bank's management and willingness to work together with civil society in a process that can be consolidated as a new standard to promote sustainable transport infrastructure.
