Taking advantage of the crisis: Capital increases for IFIs conditioned on new reforms

The latest edition of the BICECA bulletin features analysis from civil society groups from around the region on the IDB Capital Increase and the pending institutional reforms linked to it.

April 1, 2010

The Inter-American Development Bank's Annual Meetings took place March 19-23 in Cancún, Mexico.  Several civil society organizations were in attendance, among them: DAR (Peru), ILSA (Colombia), CEDHA (Argentina), ITEM (Uruguay), CEADESC (Bolivia), FUNDAR (Mexico), CDES (Ecuador), BIC (USA), Amazon Watch (USA), among others.  They seized the opportunity to continue to press the Governors and management of the IDB for institutional reforms that would benefit the entire region.   The three priority themes were:  sustainability and climate change; integration and sustainable transport; and increased accountability through a development results framework.

This edition of the BICECA bulletin includes analysis presented in Cancun by civil society from around the region on the necessary IDB reforms, including:

  • IDB Puts a Positive Spin on Pared Capital Increase
  • Transparency, a Challenge in Megaproject Construction
  • The Need for Modifications in the Current Access to Information Policy at the IDB
  • Sustainable Transport – The Road Less Taken by the IDB
  • The IDB's Mega-projects: Displacement, Destruction and Lies
  • From Climate Change to Climate Justice. Reflections on the Role of the IDB in the Implementation of False Solutions

The bulletin, complete with images and footnotes in Spanish:
