The World Bank's Energy Portfolio: Claiming sustainability amid contradictions

BICECA Monthly Bulletin

This month's edition of the BICECA Monthly Bulletin features updates on the World Bank's Energy Strategy Review as well as the IFC's Policy and Standards Review in Latin America.

This month's edition of the BICECA Monthly Bulletin features updates on the World Bank Group's consultations on its new Energy Strategy as well as the International Finance Corporation’s Policy and Standards Review in Latin America. Included are civil society's concerns surrounding both strategies as well as notes and feedback from public consultations in the region.

You'll also find the executive summary of BIC’s Model Energy Strategy, which BIC hopes will guide the Bank as it establishes its energy financing priorities for the next 10 years.

Finally, we've included a Best Practice Model for Renewable Energy Financing in Mexico, written by Dr. Jorge Islas Samperio and Ana María Gómez Solares of the Center for Energy Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.  This model serves as an example of how investments in providing energy for the poor can be made without sacrificing environmental sustainability.
