A consortium of civil society organizations provided comments on the World Bank Energy Strategy review following the consultation held in New Delhi on July 28, outlined in a communique.
A civil society consultation on the World Bank’s Energy Strategy was held on the 28th of July at India International Center, New Delhi. A total of 40 participants from over 30 civil society organizations attended this consultation.
The consultation reviewed the World Bank’s proposed Energy Strategy and came up with the following concerns and comments, which civil society hopes will be reflected in the next version of the Energy Strategy. Some of the major concerns with respect to four key questions - role of the World Bank; energy needs of the poor and the marginalized; livelihoods; and promotion/transfer of technologies – are listed first. These are followed by comments on specific aspects of the strategy.
