Indigenous Peoples Policy Profile mentions many of the key points indigenous peoples have been asking for.

Since the February 2004 IDB/civil society meeting in Jamaica, BIC has been able to see the IDB Indigenous Peoples' Policy Profile. This policy profile is expected to go to the policy committee of the Board of Directors on March 11, after which it would proceed to about ten months of public consultation. This assumes no major hold-ups from the Directors, which may be overly optimistic.
The substance of the policy profile is very interesting. It mentions many of the key points indigenous peoples have been asking for including:
- prior and informed consent
- self-identification
- support for land security issues (demarcation and titling)
- consistency with national and international legal frameworks about indigenous peoples
- respect for customary law
- protection of uncontacted peoples
More information will follow in the coming months.
