ADB releases Fourth Semiannual Report on Implementation of Samut Prakarn Project Inspection Recommendations

The report indicates no progress with regards to the remedial measures

On June 9th the ADB released its most recent report on the implementation of the Inspection Panel recomendations of the Samut Prakarn Wastewater Management Project. The Inspection of the Samut Prakarn Project was completed in early 2002 and the ADB Board of Directors required Management to provide semi-annual reports on the status of implementation of remedial measures.

The most recent report states that in December 2003 the ADB and the Thai Ministry of Finance agreed to close both the original and supplementary loans for this project. The undisbursed balance remaining in the original loan for US $18.3 million has been cancelled.

The report mentions that the project remains incomplete and suspended, and that no progress has ocurred on the remedial measures. The report also indicates there is no clear indication of what the Thai government's next steps will be with regard to the future of the project and when they will be taken.
