Request for investigation into the Cana Brava Dam project approved after two year delay

In June of 2004, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) sent MAB, the "Coordenação do Movimento dos Atingidos pela Usina Cana Brava," a letter confirming that a formal investigation of the Cana Brava project had been approved by the Board of Executive Directors of the IDB. MAB sent the initial request for investigation by the Bank's Independent Investigation Mechanism (IIM) on May 10, 2002 - a full two years prior to the IDB's decision to approve the investigation into violations of the Bank's operational policies.

Currently, there is no information available from the IDB's Independent Investigation Mechanism website.

For more information on the Cana Brava Dam project, or for information on the substance of the complaint, please see BIC's webpage on the Cana Brava Dam project.
