Sri Lankan communities consider approaching Compliance Review Panel to investigate Highway project

Request comes after dissatisfaction with delay in the problem solving phase.

The complainants in the Southern Transport Development Project in Sri Lanka, ADB's second inspection case under the new Accountability Mechanism, have notified the ADB of their intention to make a request to the Compliance Review Panel to investigate possible ADB policy breaches in the Project.

In a recent letter addressed to the Special Projects Facilitator, the complainants note that the "Assessment Phase" of the consultation process should have been completed within 49 days of the receipt of the Complaint; instead, this phase has yet to be completed even though 82 days have passed since the receipt of the original request. They allege that this delay has put them in serious danger of losing their homes to the Project and thus may render any "consultation process" meaningless. To read the full text, see:
