Mission aimed to assess Burma's economic situation.
Burmese Prime Minister Lt. Gen. Soe Win, along with the country’s Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor, received on December 15 a team of International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank officials led by Mr. Shang Jin Wei of the IMF Research Department. It was reported that this Mission was part of an annual visit to assess the country's economic situation. This was revealed by the Associated Press and the daily “New Light of Myanmar”.
The Mission also met with representatives of the United Nations and several embassies. The IMF, World Bank, and ADB did not disclose this visit on their website. Myanmar has received no direct assistance from international financial institutions since the current regime took power in September 1988.
