Wolfowitz in Brazil

World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz traveled to Brazil in mid-December on his first visit to Latin America as World Bank President.

World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz traveled to Brazil from December 15-20 on his first visit to Latin America as World Bank President. He met with Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and Finance Minister Antonio Palocci, toured education, water and slum projects, and visited the Amazon.

Remarking to the press that he hoped the visit would help him understand how to increase growth in the region, Wolfowitz stated that he is "very interested in observing the progress Brazil has made in promoting inclusive growth and reducing inequality."

The World Bank estimates that it will provide Brazil with $4 to $7.5 billion in project and investment lending between 2004 and 2007.
