World Bank anti-corruption strategy now open for public comment
16 November 2006
Comments on the controversial strategy will be accepted for an unspecified amount of time.
World Bank management presented a draft of the controversial paper “Strengthening Bank Group Work in Governance and Anti-Corruption” at the September 2006 IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Singapore. The paper has not yet been approved, and internal discussions over the strategy remain heated.
Nevertheless, the Bank's Board of Executive Directors approved a Work Plan outlining next steps for the strategy, including a consultation process, on November 9.
Details on the consultation process
The Bank opened the consultation process on November 13, 2006. The process will last for an unspecified amount of time. World Bank regional and country offices will manage consultations. Feedback will be periodically posted on the Bank website and compiled in January 2007, ultimately feeding into a progress report being presented to the Board in March in preparation for the April 2007 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings.
Consultation meeting details will be posted on the Bank website in the coming weeks. Initial meetings have been scheduled for London (December 4), Brussels (December 5), Paris (December 6) and Washington, DC (December 14).
