Gino Alzetta

Executive Director: Belgium

Represents: Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Turkey

Gino was appointed Executive Director in 2004.  He has extensive experience working within the World Bank Group and at the Ministry of Finance in Belgium.  He served as the Alternate Executive Director and Director of MIGA from 2002-2004.  Before his tenure at the World Bank held a number of positions at the Ministry of Finance in Brussels, Belgium: 1996-2002 he was the Director/Coordinator of International Relations responsible for administrative coordination and in charge of operations of Multilateral Financial Institutions and Financial and Commercial Bilateral Transfers Departments; 1993-1996 he was the Auditor and Head of the Multilateral Financial Institutions Department; 1992-1993 he was the Adviser for International Relations responsible for the World Bank Group, EBRD, AfDB, ADB, and IDB; 1991-1992 he was the Acting Adviser for International Relations in charge of Regional Development Banks; 1990-1991 he was the Deputy Adviser for International Relations, coordinating Belgian experts during the establishment of the EBRD. 

Mr. Alzetta first served as an Assistant to the Executive Director at the World Bank from 1986-1989.  From 1983-1986 he was the Alternate Executive Director for Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland to the Asian Development Bank.  He served as the Desk Officer in charge of IDB and AfDB International Relations at the Ministry of Finance in Belgium from 1982-1983.  He was a Technical Assistant to the Inter-American Development Bank based in Washington DC from 1980-1982.  Before working at the IDB, he was a Desk Officer in Internatinal Relations in charge of the IDB at the Ministry of Finance in Belgium.  He served in the military in FR of Germany as an artillery topographer from 1977-1978.  His extensive career at the Ministry of Finance began in 1976-1977 as a Deputy Tax Inspector in the Value Added Tax Administration.  His first career post was as a Technical Assitant in Customer Service at CGER_ASLK now Fortis Bank in Liege, Belgium.

In addition to his work experience Mr. Alzetta has been a member of numerous committees.  In 1990 he was a member of the Expert Group on EBRD President and Vice-President's remunerations.  He was a representative of the Minster of Finance to UNCTAD-8 in Cartagena, Colombia in 1992.  From 1994-1996 he served as: a representative of the Minster of Finance to the National Council for Sustainable Development, and the Foreign Trade Fund Commission.  In 1995 he was a member of the Task Force on Middle East Financial Mechanisms.  He took on a number of posts from 1996 to November 2002: IDA Deputy for Belgium; Alternate Governor, ADB; Alternate Governor AfDB and African Development Fund; a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Belgian Corporation for International Investment; a member of the Board of Office National du Ducroire; a member of the Board of the EIB; a member of the Administrative Council of the Development Bank of the Council of Europe.  In March 2002 Mr. Alzetta served as the representative of the Minister of Finance to the Financing for Development Conference in Monterrey, Mexico.

Mr. Alzetta was born in Malmedy, Belgium.  He holds an M.A. in Economics (major in economometrics) and a B.A. in Economic and Social Sciences from the University of Liege, Belgium.
