Amy brings a wealth of experience to her task of managing BIC's brand new Middle East & North Africa regional program.
Amy joined the Bank Information Center in May 2007 as a Program Manager for the new Middle East and North Africa Program. Before joining BIC she was Co-Director of People Advocacy. Amy's dream and passion to make the world a better place to live, led her to work in the field of community development more than 20 years ago in her native country, Egypt. Throughout the years she built a strong belief in every human being's unique powerful potentials. She envisioned that unless people discover, organize and put at work those powerful potentials, her dream of a better world will not come true.
Amy has worked with civil society organizations in Egypt and the USA. She is a community organizer, an activist, a trainer and a program designer. She was also a founder and board member in many organizations including United States- Egypt Friendship Society and the Alliance of Egyptian Americans . Amy also represents the Coptic Orthodox Church in the Social Justice and Advocacy Commission of the National Council of Churches of Christ of USA. She is also a member of the advisory committee for the Arabic version of Women’s e-News.
Amy has two Master degrees, one in International Policy and Practice with a focus on democratization processes in the Middle East from Elliott School for International Affairs, George Washington University, Washington D.C., and another in French-Arabic Simultaneous Interpretation from Ain Shams University, Cairo. She also has an advanced Diploma in Social Development from St. Francis Xavier University, NS, Canada.
Amy is the proud mother of two teenagers who use the advocacy methodologies she promotes to advocate for their causes at home. Sometimes they amaze her with very organized and successful advocacy campaigns targeting her!
