Dr. Michael Hofmann was appointed Executive Director for Germany on November 1, 2007. Prior to joining the World Bank, he served as Director General for the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) from 1999 to October 2007. He has also previously been active in the Social Democratic Party of Germany, serving as Head of International Development from 1995-1999 and Chief of Staff for the Chairman from 1992-1995. Hofmann holds a PhD in Economics and Social Sciences from the Free University, Berlin, Germany.
