Less than two weeks after the official inauguration of the Chad-Cameroon oil pipeline, the Minister of Public Security ordered the independent radio station, FM Liberte, to close indefinitely.
On October 21, the Chadian Minister of Public Security ordered the indefinite closure of FM Liberté, an independent radio station run by human rights associations and labor unions. FM Liberté had aired programs criticizing the President, highlighting human rights abuses and voicing concerns regarding the impacts of oil developments.
