IDA is asking for a 20% funding increase for the current replenishment compared to IDA 14. This would mean an increase in IDA funding of 26.3 billion Special Drawing Rights (about 39.8 billion US dollars). The previous replenishment of IDA 14 amounted to $33 billion in resources. The IDA 14 term is due to end on June 30, 2008.
Debt relief and grants have lowered IDA's financial reflows. To maintain the same volume of IDA credits and grants going to poor countries in IDA15 (mid-2008 to mid-2011), key years for achieving the MDGs, a generous replenishment of IDA is crucial. IDA15 replenishment negotiations started in March 2007. The next meeting is set to take place in Dublin, Ireland in early October.
