Chad Dobson Appointed Executive Director of the Bank Information Center

Washington, DC: Chad Dobson, the former Director of Policy and Advocacy at Oxfam America, will join the Bank Information Center (BIC) as its new Executive Director, effective December 10, 2007.

Mr. Dobson will strengthen BIC’s efforts to develop partnerships with civil society groups in developing and transition countries to influence the World Bank and other international financial institutions to promote social and economic justice and ecological sustainability.

“Entrenched global poverty and collapsing ecological systems require urgent joint action by citizens in the global north and south to ensure that development finance is sustainable, accountable, and transparent,” said Jonathan Fox, chair of BIC’s Board of Directors. “Chad has the experience, expertise, and political acumen to lead BIC in these efforts. Especially following his four years of experience with Oxfam’s global reach and campaigning focus, Chad significantly enriches BIC’s toolkit.”

“BIC’s mission is more relevant than ever” said Dobson. “Defending people’s rights to access information, to participate in development decision-making, and to hold their political representatives accountable are central to addressing poverty and ensuring sustainability and social justice. When we established BIC 20 years ago, I had not envisioned that I would be returning to deepen these efforts. The high demand for BIC’s services and its solid growth over the years attest to the centrality of its mission, and I am honored to rejoin the BIC team.”

Dobson founded BIC in 1987 and was its Executive Director until 1996. He then founded and directed the Consumers Choice Council to protect labeling systems (organic, fair trade, Marine Stewardship Council, Forest Stewardship Council) during the initial development of the World Trade Organization. At Oxfam America, where he has been since 2003, Dobson was responsible for developing the organization’s Washington presence and his portfolio included the Fair Trade campaign, extractive industries work and policy and advocacy activity associated with humanitarian relief.
