NZ Treasury secretary to be nominated to World Bank
New Zealand's longstanding Secretary of the Treasury will become an Executive Director at the World Bank in August 2011. He will represent a constituency of his own country as well as Australia, South Korea, and a number of other Asian and Pacific nations. These countries have a standing agreement on the rotation of the Executive Director's nationality, allowing them to make an announcement well in advance rather than wrangle at the last minute.

Indonesian Finance Ministry official named World Bank director
Finance Ministry Inspector General Hekinus Manao will take over as the Executive Director for eleven countries in Southeast Asia. His election, which takes effect November 1, puts him in charge of casting votes at the Board of Directors for Indonesia, Brunei, Fiji, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga and Vietnam.

International leader on clean energy joins World Bank
The World Bank has announced the appointment of Professor of Energy Daniel M. Kammen of the University of California, Berkeley as the organization’s Chief Technical Specialist for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, effective October 4th. This new position will provide leadership on a number of fronts. Civil society leaders praised the appointment, while still expressing uncertainty about the difference that the appointment will make

Egypt to let investment minister Mohieldin take position at World Bank
The Egyptian Investment Minister, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, will assume his new responsibilities as one of three managing directors at the World Bank on October 4th, 2010. Dr Mohieldin has been the Investment Minister in Egypt since July 2004. He represents Egypt in the Board of Governors of the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank. He was behind many controversial programs in Egypt including the insurance sector reform and the privatization of many public Egyptian companies and banks.

Zambia to represent Africa on World Bank Board
Pending Board approval, Zambia will represent a number of Anglophone African countries on the World Bank's Board of Directors, effective October 21, 2010. Meanwhile, discussions are underway to identify which countries will comprise the newly-formed third African seat on the Board. Outgoing Executive Director, Toga McIntosh from Liberia is expected to be replaced by Zambian representation on the World Bank's Board of Directors in mid-October. The Zambian Executive Director will be one of three representing the African continent at the Bank.
