The project is scheduled to produce 250,000 tons of ore per annum, initially from an open cast mining operation then eventually producing a concentrate containing 60% copper and 1800 parts per million (ppm) of silver. Dikulushi also represents the first guarantee to be put in place by MIGA for a mining project in the DRC. Several groups have raised concerns regarding the security and local impacts of the Dikulushi project, in light of the role of natural resources in ongoing violent conflict and human rights abuses in the country. Other issues include proper tax payments, the circumstances in which Anvil obtained the mining concession during the war, the project’s development benefits, employment conditions and security. MIGA explicitly states that it's objective is to increase private investment in DRC's mining sector.
