Currently 17 official IIRSA projects, including trans-border projects, are slated for implementation in Guyana. All of them fall within the Guianese Shield integration hub. The majority of investments in the country correspond to the road transport sector, with a considerable additional amount allocated to the energy sector.
In a November 2005 workshop on regional infrastructural integration, Guyanese Prime Minister Samuel Hinds commented favorably on plans to improve the roads linking Guyana with Brazil. He also made positive noises about the general thrust of IIRSA and on its potential for helping the country develop, saying “Guyana is a small country with limited human and financial resources, but we are prepared to stand up and be counted with regard to our commitment to the IIRSA process.”
