Srabani joined BIC in July 2007 as the Coordinator for the Information Services Program. Srabani has a M.S. from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. While at Columbia, Srabani worked as a freelance reporter for Inter Press Service (IPS) News Agency at their United Nations Bureau. Prior to Columbia, Srabani worked for three years as the Programme and Project Development Specialist for the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) based in Kathmandu, Nepal, where her interest in international development flourished. Srabani worked with program staff to develop sustainable, pro-poor programs and policies in community-based natural resources management, equity and governance, enterprise development, and information and knowledge management initiatives across the Hindu Kush-Himalayas. Before moving to Nepal, Srabani worked for seven years as an environmental analyst with Abt Associates Inc., in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In addition to her journalism degree, Srabani has a M.A. in Energy and Environmental Policy from Boston University and a B.Sc. in Geology from Beloit College.
Srabani is originally from Calcutta, India, but spent her childhood in The Philippines and Hong Kong. In 1989, she moved to the United States. She is fluent in Bengali and Nepali and can also speak some French.
