Azalea joined BIC in May 2007 as the Policy Intern. She has a variety of responsibilities that include monitoring policy reviews, extractive and energy projects, and transparency issues at the IFIs.
She graduated with a B.A. in International Affairs with a concentration in International Development Studies from the George Washington University. As a member of the Educational Network for Global and Grassroots Exchange (ENGAGE) she helped coordinate a DC event at GW for the U.S.-Thai Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Speaking Tour, which brought Thai academics and HIV/AIDs activists to the U.S. to discuss their concerns about the effects of the FTA on access to HIV and AIDs medicine.
During her studies, Azalea traveled abroad in Thailand, Spain, and Switzerland. In Thailand she learned about globalization and grassroots development in the field. Traveling to Madrid, Spain, Azalea improved her language skills and learned about European politics and history. She also lived and studied in Geneva, Switzerland visiting and meeting with people from the various international organizations including the United Nations and the International Red Cross.
Azalea is Swiss-American and speaks Swiss-German, Spanish, some French, and dwindling Thai.
