Yong Chen
Sustainable Energy Expert
Yong joined Bank Information Center as a sustainable energy expert in December 2009, after seven years as a research associate at Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). At SEI, Yong led and participated in a portfolio of policy research projects on energy and climate issues with a geographic focus on Europe and Asia. He also provided consulting services to the Swedish Ministry of Environment and Nordic Council of Minister on renewable energy issues. For example, his paper on promotion of renewable energy globally was presented by then Swedish Minister of Environment Dr. Lena Sommestad in an annual meeting of Nordic Environment Ministers.
In his previous positions with the Chinese Environmental Protection Administration at both provincial level and central level, Yong managed, coordinated and developed programs both within the Chinese government system and in an international environment, for example coordinating cooperation with the National Committee on US-China Relations on preservation and management of ecological fragile zones in Heilongjiang Province, and advanced collaboration with Alberta Ministry of Environment of Canada in the field of flood prevention, natural resource management and environmental education.
Yong has a multi-disciplinary educational background including studies in Industrial Automation Engineering, Physical Geography and Environmental Management and Policy. Yong completed his Master studies at the IIEE at Lund University. His master thesis focused on energy efficiency in the Chinese iron and steel industry and was supervised by Prof. Thomas B. Johansson of Lund University, Sweden.
