Abstract: On April 5th, 2004, the Japan Center for a Sustainable Environment and Society (JACSES) submitted a letter on behalf of 26 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to Suellen Lazarus, a Senior Advisor in the Operation Department of the IFC, expressing concern with the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) disclosure policy review process. After briefly outlining the reasons why the IFC should increase transparency and strengthen its disclosure policy, the letter calls for the IFC to take a number of specific actions with regards to its forthcoming Position Paper on IFC Transparency, consultations, public comments on the drafts of the policy, and the announcement of the review process.
